There are two easy ways to play Linux Quake III Arena on your system.
Begin by inserting the CD-ROM into your drive. Usually, you will want
to install the binaries and (optionally) the pack data file on your
hard drive. You could also run the game directly from the CD live
filesystem (see README on CD for details).
Once the installer has started, a series of on-screen instructions will guide you through the rest of the installation procedure. Make sure that you have write permissions for the location at which you intend to install the game. Once the game has started, it will display an id Software logo,
followed by a short movie. You can interrupt both by pressing
the Escape key (they can be selected for replay from the menu).
The game will ask for a CD key which you will find on the
jewel case of your CD. Both the CD key and your settings
(including the chosen GL driver) will be saved in your home
directory. |

To Play Quake III Arena in Multiplayer, you must enter the CD verification string
printed on the back of the CD packaging. If did not get a CD key, please
contact customer support. If you intend to run only a dedicated server, please
read the dedicated server documentation file provided on the CD.
To play Quake III Arena in Single Player, you must have the Quake III Arena CD in your CD-ROM drive if you did not install the complete pack file on your hard drive. |
