4. The Preferences Dialog

4.1 The User tab

The user tab holds all the user information required to log in to the server. This information must be given.

Username: The name to log in to the server with. It must be a unique one or the server will refuse the connection.

Password Your user password

email: Your email address

Logon as new user: This is required only the first time that you connect to the Napster server. If you already have a username/password, you don't need to login as a new user again.

4.2 The Connections tab

This tab holds the connection information for connecting to the Napster server. This information must be specified to connect, but usually the defaults will work unless you are connecting through a proxy.

Napster server: This is the server that Knapster will connect to to get the best host information for you. It can be any Napster server such as:

Connection speed: The speed of your internet connection

Download port: The port to allow connections to. This is usually port 6699. It must be a valid port since some downloads require a port to connect to.

If you are using the Internet through a firewall, you may need to set Knapster to use port 0, so that it notifies the Napster server of the existance of the firewall.

4.3 The Uploads/Downloads tab

The upload/download tab holds the information on mp3 file transfers. This information can be left as default if desired.

Download directory: The destination directory to put any mp3s that are downloaded

Max download connections: The number downloads that can occur at a time. If more mp3s are set to download, they will be queued and started later. A value of 0 means that there are no constraints on the number of downloads.

Beep on download finish: If set, this will cause the computer to beep whenever a mp3 finishes downloading ( or stops because of an error ).

Max upload connections: The maximum number of uploads that are allowed from you. A value of 0 says there is no limit. Any other value specified the number of connections allowed.

4.4 The Misc Tab

The misc tab holds a number of other options that can be set, but do not have to specified.

Clear searchlist on new search: If set, each time a new search is started, the search list is cleared of previous results. If it is not set, then to clear the list, you must select a mp3 in the search list and then use the right mouse button popup menu to clear the list.

Show full filepath: If set, this causes the search list to show the full pathname to the songs. If it is not set, only the filename is displayed.

mp3 player command: This is the command to run when the play menu popup is selected. It defaults to mpg123. Note that it needs the player program to run it :)

4.5 The Libraries path tab

This tab allows specification of the directories to show in the mp3 libaray panel. It allows you to specify whether or not the songs in this directory are shared.

Each entry is in the form of:

path , shared , recurse depth

- path is the directory path to include.

- shared specifies whether these songs will be shared by Napster.

- recurse depth tells how many directories deep to go searching for mp3's.

To add another directory, fill in the text boxes below the list and press the insert button.
