$(cpicName) Help - Compact Database
The Compact Database utility helps minimize the amount hard drive space used for storing thumbnails.

If is configured to save your thumbnails, you may find that your thumbnail database can get quite large over time. Use this utility to compact your database and recover hard disk space.

Compacting the Database The Compact Database utility is found under the Utilities menu.

To begin compacting your database, simply select Compact Database from the Utility menu. You will be shown a screen which informs you the process is underway.

Depending on the size of your database, this may take a few seconds, or a few minutes. You can follow the status of the operation by looking at the status bar under the preview window. It will show the percentage of the operation which has been completed.

Once complete, you will be told the current size of the database and how much hard drive space was reclaimed by the compaction.

Note: This utility will have little effect if you have not configured to save thumbnails. If you have changed your preferences so that thumbnails are not saved, there will not be much effect from compacting the database.
