COMMERCIAL PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT NetRepair LanStat ethernet statistical lan analyser. As a result of the massive expansion of local and wide area networks, the need for network managers to gather statistical information is becoming extremely vital for capacity planning, network security, fault finding, application performance analysis, traffic logging, client usage billing and network auditing. Presently, the tools available to collect and analyse statistical information are very expensive, are extremely complicated to use, are not very practical, are usually designed with bulky graphical interfaces and are implemented on a sub-standard operating system. Currently the majority of network managers do not have and would not benefit from these tools (which include most lan analysers and network management systems). NetRepair LanStat was designed to overcome the shortcomings of other existing commercial products. This analyser has a fresh approach to gathering statistical information. It is implemented on a Unix style operating system which provides high performance, reliability and flexibility. LanStat provides functions to enable network managers to gather all of the statistical information frequently required to easily manage their networks. Features: - Simple to use interactive user interface - Extremely portable (ie. runs from floppy disk) - Capture lan traffic at high packet rates - Lan utilisation statistics - Packet size distribution of all captured traffic - Total packets/bytes, packets/bytes per second for all traffic - Ethernet and IP protocol counts - Manufacturer card counts - Node and conversation list generator for Ethernet, IP and Novell - Top talkers and conversations for Ethernet, IP and Novell (sorted by total bytes, total packets, packets/sec or bytes/sec) - Duplicate IP address checker - Warning messages about bad devices - Disk logging of all statistics in time stamped flat ascii files - Remote access via TCP/IP (ie. telnet) - Operate completely from a bootable FreeBSD floppy or a fully installed FreeBSD system - Monitor multiple ethernet segments simultaneously from the same PC - Operate on most 486/Pentium PC hardware - Terminal-type independent - Operate interactively or as a background process Uses: - Security - Application performance analysis - Fault finding - Traffic logging and billing - Network auditing This is a demonstation version of NetRepair Lanstat ethernet statistical lan analyser. Included in the tar file are the following files: readme.txt Text version of the manual lanstat Statically linked binary executable NOTE: For the impatient who don't want to read the documentation first, please read section 17 of the readme files as it explains how to use LanStat on a fully installed FreeBSD system. There are a few changes to be made to the kernel before lanstat can be used.
